Spring 2019

As Head of Information Security, I have built a comprehensive program that manages cybersecurity risks in order to protect the firm’s systems, data, reputation, and investor assets.
What career experiences led you to your current role?
Prior to leading the Information Security program, I spent over a decade building and automating systems management services and platforms with a strong focus on delivering purpose-built solutions for the business.
What is it you do on a daily basis?
I oversee the security operations team, provide guidance and leadership, and communicate with senior leadership.
What do you like most about your job?
One of the things that I like most about my job is the opportunity I get every day to embrace challenges collaboratively with the stakeholders across the business. A recent example was the build out of a secure data room (file sharing) product with integrated file encryption and watermarking capabilities. Selecting one product with security integrated by design allowed us to streamline the business process through automation while meeting and automating our security control objectives. A true win-win.
What advice would you give a student considering a similar career?
My advice for students interested in pursuing a career in cybersecurity would be to research how a modern operating system works and communicates on a network, and then challenge yourself by asking how you could theoretically compromise one of the three tenets of cybersecurity: confidentiality, integrity, or availability. If that excites you then it’s likely that a career in cybersecurity is right for you.
